WORK FROM HOME <– Click here to get started!

Of course, the main factors of increased online workers are due to the global financial crisis. People are getting fired and are turning every corner desperately looking for any job to pay their bills. Why else? Teenagers are also eager to gain some extra bucks to go to the movies, pay for gas, or perhaps buy some nice clothes they've always been dreaming of. To solve both of these problems, the internet has given everyone regardless of age, gender, marital status, account balance, or experience to have a chance to make money online.

NO NEED OF RESUMES

When you work online, are the boss, your OWN boss, and you can do WHATEVER you want. You can save a ton of time applying to multiple jobs and spend that time on making direct money. Getting this out of the way, all you need to do is pick any job you want online. You have no worries at home waiting to get accepted to some business that you have no interest in working for.

OWN WORK HOURS

You can work 10 hours on Monday and 2 hours of Friday if you would like. You don't need to drive anywhere or talk to anyone. Your pajamas are your new outfit, no more suits to work. This the leading factor to why people that work at home LOVE their job. Oh, and not to mention… unlimited vacation time! Go anywhere anytime without consulting with your boss or associates.

HIGHER INCOME POTENTIAL

Can you really make more money online than engineers, lawyers and doctors out there? Definitely, the secret to making money online is to have many different streams of income. You should work many things such as owning a website, owning a blog, promoting many products, and even filling out surveys. Another benefit of online jobs is many websites owned by you are passive. Whether you're sleeping, on vacation, or out for dinner, you are still able to receive payments for your products selling online. And the articles you write have advertisements which generate an automatic income for you. Even if you have written articles 10 to 20 years ago, they will STILL generate automatic income. Guess what? Not only will you be able to have an automatic income, they will send the money to you AUTOMATICALLY as well! Don't be surprised of all the rewards of working online. Hard work will get your far in life. Believe me, you need to try it for yourself!

For most families Friday will have followed a familiar pattern: children waking up excitedly before dawn; wrapping paper strewn around the floor as presents are ripped open; crackers and their awful jokes, paper hats and terrible toys; turkey – or maybe goose – with roasties, stuffing, pigs in blankets; lots of booze; piles of washing up; the Queen; the EastEnders/Corrie Christmas special; board games; charades; probably the odd family argument or two.

But spare a thought for the almost one in 10 Britons who had a different sort of day – one that involved waking up, getting ready and heading out to work. After all, not everything in the country came to a standstill on Christmas Day. There were hospitals that needed running, cabs that needed driving, hotels that needed staffing and, of course, churches that needed leading.

In fact, according to a study from the communications company Skype, 5.8 million people were at work on Friday – and that is just a fraction of those working over the Christmas period. The research also revealed that 23.2 million worked on Christmas Eve and another 11 million yesterday, on Boxing Day. This week 18.9 million are preparing to be back at work on New Year's Eve.

Among them are doctors, nurses, waiters, bar staff, shop assistants, ambulance drivers, vicars, charity workers, pilots, cleaners, journalists and radio DJs, police officers, call-centre workers and more. Not to mention the workforce entertaining families on Christmas breaks; Centre Parcs and Butlins were both up and running.

The Observer spoke to a few of those working on Friday. An ambulance technician in Blackpool who ate turkey in a hospital canteen; a priest in Oxford who led her service and entertained dozens of locals; a cabbie in London who helped to ensure her regulars got to spend the day with their relatives.

Then there was the Radio 1 DJ whose voice boomed into people's homes up and down the country before he rushed back to spend the day with his parents and nan, and the hospital consultant on intensive care, caring for some of the sickest people in the country. And we mustn't forget the work being carried on in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. For soldiers out there, a Christmas treat was a phone call to the family, a bit of television – and a proper lunch.

The troops

For the soldiers of the 1st Btn Coldstream Guards, Christmas was spent in Babaji, Helmand Province.

The guardsmen from No 2 Company are part of the Police Mentoring Team and since October have lived and worked alongside their Afghan police counterparts in a small, sparsely-equipped checkpoint. Contact with home – other than by letters, that can take weeks to arrive – is rare, and electricity, water and food are rationed.

Last week brought a respite from daily operations – but it was brief.

Guardsman Vincent Ngwira, 22, who is from Malawi but now lives in Chelmsford, Essex, said he enjoyed Friday. “Some of the officers and the regimental sergeant-major came down from HQ to take over our duties for the day. It's good that they showed their support like that. We got to phone our families, watch TV and even have a proper lunch.” Ngwira added he enjoyed his job, but missed home – “especially watching football”.

For guardsmen Mark Deakin and Danny Bradley, Christmas was a reminder that they were not with their children. Deakin missed his two-and-a-half-year-old daughter in Sheffield and Bradley his two-year-old son in Leicester.

“It was the first time I had spent Christmas away from my family,” said Nathan Idonga, 24. “I missed the family Christmas spirit, but in a way I've got another family here.”

The platoon commander, Lt Rob Philp, 25, said that the past few weeks had been hard work, but that the soldiers felt they had achieved something worthwhile.

“A temporary school has opened near our checkpoint. They're building a new one and this one is in tents alongside the site,” he said. “More than 150 children are attending each day, and it's something we've enabled through our work alongside the police to provide security – it's hugely satisfying.”

He added that the soldiers had all appreciated being relieved for the day: “It gave the boys a chance to relax a bit. Although none of us is with our families, working in such a small team brings you very close and it feels like a family – brothers in arms, if you like. These are the people you want to be with at this time of year if you can't be at home.”

The vicar

It is perhaps no surprise that Rev Margreet Armitstead was working on Friday: Christmas Day is one of the busiest of the year for the Oxford priest. She woke up at 6.45am in her vicarage close to Littlemore Church, and spent some time with her husband and two teenage children.

By 9.15am Armitstead had made her way to the local school, where she opened up to allow a chef to start roasting the turkey for the annual community lunch. Later on they would serve a “big family meal” to more than 60 people. From there she quickly headed back to her church to start the Christmas service at 10am. Each member of the congregation was given a tiny cloth bag and asked to use their imagination to place their hopes for the next year, thanks for the last, or prayers for others into the bags. They then attached the white bags to a Christmas tree in the middle of the church.

“It looked beautiful,” said Armitstead. “The tree was transformed into one of hope, thanksgiving and prayers.

“After the service it gets hectic,” said Armitstead. The priest set up the community lunch in 2004 when she saw a message scrawled on a Chinese takeaway board. It read: “I had a horrible Christmas. We had a piece of toast and that is all we had.” She wanted to make sure that no one in Littlemore felt alone at Christmas again. “It is simple: we had a big family meal prepared by a professional cook. There was turkey and all the trimmings and there was bingo, a raffle, Father Christmas and presents.” There was also a piano, a bass guitar and a clarinet. As the group waited for deserts, they began belting out Christmas carols.

Afterwards Armitstead and her family headed back to their home and “just crashed out together”. They opened presents, watched a film and played games in the vicarage's cosy living room filled with a Christmas tree, decorations and artwork. “Quite a few people look at the church with suspicion,” said Armitstead. “But the lunch we do in community is one of the things that people really appreciate.”

The ambulanceman

Colin and Joanne Jones woke up at six o'clock on Christmas morning and began the day at their home in Fleetwood, Lancashire, with a cup of tea and some breakfast. There was no time for anything else because Jones, 28, had to be at his ambulance station soon after 7am to start a 12-hour shift; 999 calls don't stop for Christmas. Jones and his colleague, a woman named Sam, had been given two vouchers to spend on a turkey dinner at a local hospital.

The first call came at 7.15am, the first of 12 emergencies that day. “It was very, very busy,” said Jones, who is training to be a paramedic. During the day he attended to a patient vomiting blood, an elderly woman who had missed a step on a staircase and fallen, someone who had forgotten to collect their emergency medication for the holiday period and had run out, and a road traffic accident.

“We snuck the Christmas dinner in at about 2.30 or 3pm at Blackpool Victoria Hospital. We had 30 minutes to eat turkey with all the trimmings – pigs in blankets, roast potatoes, stuffing, carrots and sprouts with gravy.” Jones tried to speak to his family between incidents. He had only two breaks – lunch and another for 20 minutes.

His wife spent the day with her parents. The last call came at 6.50pm – a 100-year-old man who lived alone was experiencing chest pain. “It was just another normal day in the ambulance service. Busier than expected – the casualty department at the hospital was bursting at the seams.”

Jones did not finish till after 8pm – and went to his in-laws to pick up Joanne. The couple went back to their three-bedroom detached home, opened presents and watched a film.

For Christmas, Jones got some clothes vouchers, cufflinks, toiletries, chocolates and a “scratch card I didn't win on”. After that he settled down with a can of beer and some snacks and zoned out as he watched The Grinch.

The doctor

On Christmas Day, two consultants, seven junior doctors and almost 40 nurses made their way to the intensive care unit at the Royal Brompton Hospital in west London. They were there to care for extremely ill patients, some of whom had just undergone major operations on their hearts and lungs. The ward is also coping with seriously ill swine flu patients.

The unit is only one of three in the country to offer ECMO, a technique that uses an artificial lung to oxygenate the blood outside the body in patients with the most acute respiratory problems.

On Friday, there were no limits on visiting hours. Families, some of whom had travelled long distances, stayed close to their loved ones and ate Christmas lunch provided by the nurses.

Less than 20 minutes away, Dr Simon Finney, an adult intensive care consultant, pictured, said goodbye to his wife and 10-month old son and headed out to work before 7am. He was to be on call until Tuesday morning.

Christmas morning began with a ward round. Staffing levels have been increased because of a second spike in swine flu cases. “We haven't really looked after so many people who are all so sick,” said Finney. But he managed to get to his in-laws in the middle of the day, where he had Christmas lunch and opened presents. He left again at 6pm and stayed at the hospital until midnight.

The DJ

Greg James's alarm went off at 4.45am on Christmas Day. The 24-year-old Radio 1 DJ had gone to his parents' house in Bishop's Stortford, Hertfordshire, the day before, but, having volunteered to work, he needed to be back in central London before 6am. The night before had been spent in a pub with a group of friends – but James made sure he was in bed by just after midnight.

By the time he was on air he sounded bright and excited: “I like being on radio at Christmas. Everyone is in a good mood and you can get away with a bit of mischief.”

Back in Hertfordshire, his family was waking up. His dad, Alan, turned on the radio as he began to prepare the turkey. James had decided that this year the entire four-hour show would be dedicated to Christmas songs. “There aren't enough of them to fill the whole show, so all the big hits that we played in the first hour – the Pogues, Mariah Carey, Slade and so on – were repeated in the final hour as we thought different people would be listening,” he said.

During the show he called other Radio 1 DJs to see if they were listening – without much luck. Dominic Byrne said he had already changed two nappies that morning and Fearne Cotton said her mother was listening to Christmas carols instead.

Radio 1's offices in Broadcasting House were virtually empty apart from James, his producer and assistant producer. To feel a little more Christmassy, they moved into the only studio with any decorations: “A Christmas tree and a bit of tinsel.”

But the DJ didn't miss too much of the family celebration. He was off air at 10am and back in his parents' house before midday. From then on it was lots of relatives, presents, turkey, cava, board games and the Queen's Speech.

The taxi driver

There was never any question that Helen Saunders would be working over Christmas. Her taxi company – Lady MiniCabs, based in Archway, north London – was inundated with people needing to be transported around the capital. Saunders owns the company, answers the phones and drives.

On Christmas Day, she was up before 7am. With no time for breakfast, her husband packed her a bag of nuts, some sweets and a bottle of water. It was another four jobs before she was able to take a break.

First on the list was driving a woman to work at a laboratory at University College London. From there, Saunders took a passenger to Heathrow to catch a flight to visit her family in Geneva; then to Hatfield, Hertfordshire, to pick up a man in a wheelchair and drive him to Islington, north London, for lunch with his sister. “He was most perturbed because she was a vegetarian and was going to make nut roast,” said Saunders, laughing. Then she took a regular customer from Muswell Hill to a nearby cemetery to visit her sister's grave.

“After four jobs, I went home for lunch,” she said. “I was cooked roast beef by my vegetarian husband. It was the two of us for a couple of hours. We didn't have any crackers. We had a glass of water each and watched the Queen.” Saunders then took the man from Hatfield home. After that, she saw a friend “in need of a hug” before heading to Hackney to pick up a woman in her 80s from her daughter's home and drive her back to near Reading.

Lady MiniCabs was set up 30 years ago for women who felt safer with female drivers. But as licensing laws were strengthened, they decided to also take on men, both as drivers and passengers. However, Saunders makes sure that the focus is still on vulnerable customers who need support. In her last job on Christmas Day, she took the elderly woman into her home, switched on the heating and put the kettle on.

“I enjoy working Christmas Day,” she said. “If I didn't do that, those people – the disabled gentleman, the elderly lady, the woman heading to Geneva – would not have got to spend the day with their families.”

As for her lost Christmas, that will happen on New Year's Day, when she hosts lunch for her family.

It doesn't look like this event will be shown for free on the Spike channel this time around. Just before submitting this, I found a rumor that Spike TV might actually air UFC 72 as a 3 hour special. UFC fans will have to wait and find out to see if this comes true or not. Let's hope it does!

For MMA fans, 2009 offered a number of outlets to watch great mixed martial arts competition.

Although Strikeforce made incredible leaps and bounds during the year, the UFC has to remain the top promotion in the sport.

Whatever the general public thinks of Dana White does not really matter anymore.  The outspoken UFC president has taken the Zuffa owned promotion and put the personal work into it making sure, not only the die-hard fans, but everyone knows what the UFC is and how entertaining it can be.

The sport is where it is at now thanks to the UFC, it’s talented roster of fighters and the people behind the scenes.

It’s difficult to argue against the MMA juggernaut when they were able to put on their 100th show and break over five million in pay-per-view buys in the process. This kind of longevity is not seen everyday in the business.  Just look at what happened to Affliction.

What Dana White labeled “the t-shirt guys” tried to put on shows the quality of the UFC and did so, however, bankruptcy ultimately consumed whatever money they made off of just two events.

Stirkeforce is nibbling at the toes of their promotional counterpart in the sense that they have gone from local show to national giant in the matter of months and are close behind.  The San Jose-based organization may have some great things planned for 2010, but in 2009 they could not produce the combination of content and quality that the UFC has been able to put together.

Fights like BJ Penn vs. Georges St. Pierre II have the epic impact going into fight night where it overshadows any other MMA news coming off the wire.  Only the UFC has the ability to put two of the top pound-for-pound fighters in the same cage. Although they acquired, arguably, the best Heavyweight ever in Fedor Emelianenko, Strikeforce struggles to put their champion, Alistair Overeem, in the same cage as the Russian.

Two champions in one fight versus one champion refusing to compete?  Edge: UFC.

Let’s not consider fighters for a moment.  Let’s take a look at the year as a whole.

The UFC has managed to put together 15 UFC numbered events, three UFC Fight Nights, and two Ultimate Fighter finales.  This consistency is remarkable beyond just MMA.  In a time where the economy is at it’s worst in years, the UFC continues to grow and prosper without a hint of let up.

In other sports, entire teams are filing for bankruptcy.  The Phoenix Coyotes filed Chapter 11 in May due to a lack of income from their product.  That being said, who puts a hockey team in the desert?!  Come on, really?!

With so many events put together in a 12-month span, the UFC solidifies itself as a pinnacle of business success.  Strikeforce will, perhaps one day, produce several quality shows in the span of a year, but it was the UFC that opened every opportunity for spectatorship in ‘09.

Monthly consistency versus here and there enjoyment?  Advantage: UFC

Last, and most certainly not least, the fighters themselves have put in the most physical effort to ensure the UFC stays the top promotion in all of MMA.

As simple as can be, the UFC roster is the most talented in the world.  BJ Penn, Georges St. Pierre, Anderson Silva and a host of others lead the way to mainstream success for the Las Vegas-based promotion.

Anytime these names come up as ones headlining a UFC card, a frenzy begins.  Others, like Lyoto Machida and Shogun Rua, make headlines after a controversial fight in Los Angeles only to make way for one of the most anticipated rematches in the sport’s history.

When you talk of, pound for pound, best in the world, each of the UFC’s five divisions offer at least one candidate.

Not only are all five divisions strong, but the light heavyweight division stands out as beacon weight class in mixed martial arts.  As 2009 has shown us, the light-heavyweight title can change hands in the matter of one fight.

Three champions in one year and it is not because the previous champion was a joke. Forrest Griffin, Rashad Evans then Lyoto Machida; all quality 205-pounders who gained the title and have been beaten up defending it due to the Mariana Trench like depth of the division…The Mariana Trench is the deepest on the planet, for those who didn't catch that.

I mention Lyoto Machida as one who has been beaten up, but never lost the title.  His clash with Shogun was a fight that was etched in all of our minds, and we continue to talk about it to this date, two months post fight.

The recent signing of Dan Henderson added some additional weight to the Strikeforce roster, but it does not put them over the top.  The potential for Strikeforce to make tremendous things happen has not been around since the Fertita brothers purchased the UFC in 2002, but they have yet to carry the division-by-division mojo that the UFC did this year and years prior.

Stacked against each other, division for division, the UFC out-weighs Strikeforce.  Look to see Scott Coker and Co. gain a few pounds of power and muscle in 2010.

The UFC is still the upper echelon of mixed martial arts organizations.  Bottom to top, the promotion stands firm as the leader in revenue, fighters, shows and mainstream success.  This, however, will not slow down the meteoric rise of Strikeforce.  As long as the people behind the scenes are smart with the money and the fighters continue to perform at the rate they have been on, Strikeforce may soon be considered the top dog.

2009 was the beginning of a great rivalry between the UFC and Strikeforce, but Dana and the Fertitas remain on the peak of the MMA promotional mountain.

The UFC officially released the lineup for “UFC 109: Relentless” today, and it follows in the footsteps of UFC 108, with a less than stellar main event.

Unfortunately it doesn't end there, as it moves forward into 2010 as well.

I wrote less than a month ago about the steady decline of UFC 108, from a great card to an average one. At least the UFC had intentions of making that card an interesting event.

Injuries aside, it was on pace to rival many of the UFC's other year-end cards.

The UFC is setting a very bad precedent by offering main events that are not title matches, or at the very least, carry title implications.

UFC 109 will mark the third straight fight for Randy Couture in which he is not fighting for either the light heavyweight or heavyweight championships.

It goes to show you that the higher-ups are willing to go to the well one too many times, as opposed to offering the fans the fights they really want to see.

Up until UFC 102, where he faced and lost to Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Couture had been involved in only one not-title fight in his UFC career.

At UFC 109, he will square off against one of the only other fighters in the UFC who was born in the 1960's, former heavyweight champion, Mark Coleman.

UFC 110 will mark the third straight event that is void of a championship bout. At least the main event of that card pits two serious contenders for the heavyweight title, in Nogueira and Cain Velasquez.

Basically from UFC 105 going through to UFC 110, there is a total of one title match, and that takes place at UFC 107, as Diego Sanchez battles the champion, B.J. Penn, for the lightweight crown.

I find it absurd that the UFC is continually asking their fans to shell out over $50 for each pay-per-view, yet they refuse to give their hardworking fans true value for their dollar.

Sometimes a card can get away without a strong anchor, if it has a good supporting cast.

UFC 109 does have some interesting matchups, but they are hardly the type of fights that people have been begging to see.

The co-main event is a rematch between Josh Koscheck and Paulo Thiago.

Being this is only Thiago's fourth career bout with the organization, I don't believe he has earned a place that high up on the card, not many people are paying to watch him fight.

Also on the card is a battle of irrelevant welterweights, as Frank Trigg tangles with Matt Serra. Again, a nice fight, but not one that people will pay to see.

It's really becoming a disturbing trend, the UFC shoves these fights down the fans throats, and instead of spitting it back up, we take it, thus allowing them to get away with it time and time again.

The organization has become complacent, they know at this point in time, there isn't any steady competition.

Strikeforce is lurking, but right now, they aren't scaring Dana White and the Fertitta brothers into making any drastic, yet, necessary changes.

The UFC believes it can hand out whatever they want, and the fans will keep buying it. It is up to us, as a whole, to get them to offer us more quality on their cards.

In 2009, there were 14 UFC events (Not counting TUF Finales or Fight Nights), and only 8 title defenses.

That means only 57 percent of the pay-per-views this year had a title bout on the card.

If you want to get technical, we can say there were only actually 13 pay-per-view cards, as UFC 105 was shown via tape delay on Spike TV.

So now 61.5 percent of all pay-per-views included a fight for a championship. That's crazy.

With the economy in the shape that it's in, everyone is scrimping and saving, trying to stretch every dollar as far as they can. Yet we are being asked by men with millions upon millions of dollars to shell out our hard earned money for at best, an average product.

And we all know injuries do happen, as GSP, Anderson Silva, and Lesnar are currently on the shelf, but you mean to tell me, that there isn't a better main event than Couture-Coleman?

So UFC 109 is called Relentless, and I find that fitting in a way.

The UFC has been relentless in trying to pull the wool over the eyes of their fans for months now.

Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira is a heavyweight legend looking to climb to the top of the mountain one more time following his win over Hall of Famer Randy Couture in August. Unbeaten rising star Cain Velasquez has moved rapidly up the ranks, but he needs one more win to get a shot at the belt. On Saturday, January 2nd, the main event of UFC 108 will see these two heavyweight standouts meet to determine a future challenger for the title. Also, former UFC light heavyweight champion ‘Suga’ Rashad Evans begins on his road back to the title as he attempts to avenge his teammate Keith Jardine’s loss against Brazilian knockout artist Thiago Silva at UFC 108: Nogueira vs Velasquez, presented by “Bayonetta” and live on pay-per-view from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

“Nogueira vs. Velasquez is a great matchup between the present and the future of the heavyweight division,” said UFC President Dana White. “Nogueira showed in the Couture fight that he still has plenty left to offer at the top level of the game, and Velasquez was devastating in his win over Ben Rothwell, so with both guys in top form, we’re definitely going to see a number one contender emerge from this fight to take on the winner of the Brock Lesnar vs Shane Carwin title fight.”

Tickets for UFC 108 are priced at $600, $400, $300, $200, $100 and $50, not including applicable service charges, go on sale Saturday, November 14 at 10 a.m. at all Las Vegas Ticketmaster locations (select Smith’s Food and Drug Centers and Ritmo Latino). Ticket sales are limited to eight (8) per person. To charge by phone with a major credit card, call Ticketmaster at (800) 745-3000. Tickets also are available for purchase at UFC.comwww.mgmgrand.com or www.ticketmaster.com.

UFC® Fight Club™ members will have the opportunity to purchase tickets to this event Thursday, November 12 at 10 a.m. PT via the website UFC.com. A special Internet ticket pre-sale will be available to UFC newsletter subscribers Friday, November 13 starting at 10 a.m. PT. To access this presale, users must register for the UFC newsletter through UFC.com.

UFC 108 will be available live on pay-per-view on iN DEMAND, DIRECTV, DISH Network, TVN, BellTV, Shaw Communications and Viewer’s Choice Canada for a suggested retail price of $44.95 for standard definition or high-definition broadcasts (where available).

One of the sport’s legendary heavyweights, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) always seems to fight his way back into the title picture. With an outstanding 32-5-1, 1 NC record that includes wins in three of his first four UFC fights, the 33-year-old parlayed a unanimous decision victory against Heath Herring into a UFC interim heavyweight title shot where he submitted former UFC champion Tim Sylvia. At UFC 102 in Portland, Nogueira earned an exciting unanimous decision victory over hometown favorite and UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture. But now the only man to hold UFC and PRIDE heavyweight championship belts looks to stop the ascension of the sport’s newest rising star.

“I’m very excited to face an up-and-coming fighter such as Cain Velasquez,” Nogueira said. “I’m looking to get right back in the title picture. It will be interesting coming off that great win against a legend such as Randy Couture to now face a fighter who’s at the beginning of a promising career and who’s looking for that same success.”

Fresh off his dominating TKO victory against respected contender Ben Rothwell at UFC 104 in October, Cain Velasquez (fighting out of San Jose, Calif.) remains perfect in the UFC and has inched that much closer to a UFC heavyweight title shot. With only one fight going the distance, a unanimous decision victory over Cheick Kongo at UFC 99, the former two-time NCAA All-American wrestler from Arizona State has finished each of his other UFC opponents within two rounds. And as the owner of a professional MMA record of 7-0, it’s clear that there are very few heavyweights that can match Velasquez’s quickness or stop his takedowns.

“I am excited to fight a legend like Nogueira. He’s one of the fighters I watched growing up and admired – he’s definitely one of the greats, and a win over him is what I need to set me up for my shot at the title,” said Velasquez. “I have a lot respect for Noguiera and look forward to facing him in the Octagon.”

Ready to get his UFC light heavyweight title back, Rashad Evans (fighting out of Albuquerque, N.M.) has notched wins over some big names in the division, including consecutive knockout victories over Chuck Liddell and then champion Forrest Griffin. The Niagara Falls, New York native and former Michigan State University wrestler has won 18 of his 20 pro fights, including a draw against former UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz. A skilled grappler that has tremendous knockout power, Evans will need all of his well-rounded abilities when he takes on Thiago Silva, the man who knocked out his teammate and training partner Keith Jardine.

“Thiago’s a hard puncher and a very good fighter, and I respect him,” said Evans. “But I’d be lying if I said that I didn’t want to get a little payback for Keith on January 2nd. This is gonna be a great fight for the fans, but I think I’ve got too many tools for Silva to deal with.”

A Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt that can get the knockout as easy as the tap out, Thiago Silva (fighting out of Sao Paulo, Brazil) has won 14 of his first 15 pro fights. His 95 second KO victory over Jardine at UFC 102 was his fifth win in the UFC, with four coming via KO/TKO and one by submission. The 26-year-old has put away his opponents within two rounds in all of his UFC wins and he looks to throw his name in the UFC title contention hat with a win over former world titleholder Rashad Evans.

“Rashad Evans is a former UFC champion and one of the best light heavyweights in the world,” said Silva. “But he’s never faced a fighter like me, and once I hit him, I have no doubt that a victory is going to follow for me soon after.”

Watch Sherlock Holmes

Posted by gordonaguilar1961 on December 23, 2009

The problem with pastiche of something of that is the best ever example of its kind is that it will always disappoint. In the sense that it won't live up to the original at its best. That is certainly what I have found with Sherlock Holmes pastiche in general, having read several anthologies of such.

So making a reprint anthology and drawing from the huge number overall is probably a better strategy - and also give it an angle so that there is some of more general interest than 'how good a copy is this?' In this case, a fantasy or sf slant to the tales, a lot of the time.

A 3.38 average overall, so a decent book.

Watch Avatar

Posted by gordonaguilar1961 on December 22, 2009

indeed, top shot for sharing it, altho its looking kinda futile with the link killing thats going on.

As for the comment from snuff, dude, you weren’t watching it in 3d if it diddn’t blow you away. the lenses should have been one colour, not red and blue.

the comment about $50 that someone ragged on me for was actually from a previous poster claiming that expense, how about the poser flamers actually read comments before looking like cocks.

and kadico, this would be my favourite movie this decade. Sometimes we have to pay for cinema, so the actors and directors and crew dont end up being the homeless people you feel so charitable about. fucking prick. I may download but I still go see the big releases.

If Avatar were the most expensive movie of all-time, there might be some responsibility to score the biggest opening-weekend of all time. But, at $240 million, Avatar was not the most expensive movie ever. 2012 ($260 million), Spider-Man 3 ($275 million) and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End ($300 million) all cost more. Heck, thanks to 2012 (remember when Roland Emmerich was known for cheap effects that looked expensive?), it was not even the most expensive non-sequel. But expectations are a dangerous thing, so how much Avatar pulled in this weekend will not matter as much as perception of said numbers. If the press jumps on the 'mere' $73 million opening sprint the way they crucified King Kong's $50 million 3-day and $66 million five-day opening, then the film may forever be considered a disappointment no matter how much it grosses in the end. On the other hand, if the number is looked at in a realistic fashion, then we can all acknowledge that this was a pretty darn-impressive opening weekend for a film with major long-term potential. Let's begin…

The much anticipated and debated (amongst film nerds at least) Avatar debuted this weekend with $77 million. That's the second-biggest December opening in history, behind the $77.25 million debut of Will Smith's I Am Legend. In Avatar's defense, I Am Legend was an hour shorter, had a great tag-line that doubled as an easy-to-understand plot synopsis (”The last man on earth is not alone.”), and had the added buzz of the debuting trailers for The Dark Knight. While Warner Bros. held its non-IMAX Dark Knight trailer off the internet until Sunday night, Paramount did Fox no similar favors, releasing its Iron Man 2 teaser online two days before Avatar's opening day. It's also worth noting that Avatar actually opened on fewer screens than many of the top December openings. On the other hand, Avatar debuted in countless 3D and mini-IMAX screens, which increased the general ticket prices to more than overcome the running-time and screen-count disadvantage. For what it's worth, it beat Up's $68 million opening, taking the record for 3D opening weekends. But Avatar did break one very notable record. It is the biggest debut in history for a completely unaffiliated original movie. By that, I mean it was not a sequel, not a franchise adaptation, not a literary adaptation, and not a star-vehicle. It's also racked up $164 million overseas, for a global total of $241 million.

So far, general word of mouth is strong, with those who didn't go in with months of anticipation and expectations pretty much being blown away by the 3D visuals, photo-real special effects work, and large-scale action spectacle (my parents saw it on opening day and loved it). But long-term predictions would be pure guesswork at this point. If we argue that the Saturday and Sunday snowstorms prevented otherwise interested moviegoers from checking out the picture, then we can either expect stronger than normal weekday sales or inflated second-weekend grosses. We'll know more after its second weekend, when it will attempt to use positive buzz to overcome the sure-fire smash weekend debut of Sherlock Holmes. So I'll just toss out the following math: If Avatar performs like the alleged flop King Kong (4.36x its opening weekend), it can expect to gross $335 million. If it performs like Titanic (it won't but let's do the math anyway), it'll do 20.9x times its opening weekend figure for $1.61 billion in the US. Obviously that isn't going to happen, but I will say that January 2010 seems on paper a lot quieter than January 2009. So it won't likely run into the problem that last year's holiday releases did (Marley and Me, Bedtime Stories, Yes Man, and Seven Pounds), where the usual leggy holiday and post-holiday season got kneecapped by uncommonly popular January releases (Gran Torino, Taken, Paul Blart Mall Cop).

If it needs to be said, Avatar was never, ever going to reach the upper-realms of the opening weekend chart. There has never been a December opening that even topped $80 million, let alone $100 million and beyond. Before this weekend, no completely original and star-less movie had opened north of $68 million (The Day After Tomorrow). Furthermore Avatar had to deal with a brutally negative entertainment press that basically made stuff up to make the movie look doomed ('it cost $500 million!' 'the 3D made our previous audiences sick!'). It was a 2.75 hour movie with no stars and a difficult to explain premise, plus 3D visuals that frankly looked so much better in theaters that the teaser, trailer, and photos were a little underwhelming to the uninformed. Topping off its sea of troubles that would have felt more at home in A Serious Man, we had those brutal snowstorms over the weekend. On the other hand, the 'wow, it's great' surprise factor worked wonders for Jurassic Park, as people like myself had absolutely no idea how good it was going to be until those Thursday advance-night showings on June 10th, 1993. Surprise artistic success is always better for long-term box office than expected brilliance. One thing we learned this weekend, never ever bet against James Cameron.

Before I dash, a bit of non-Avatar news (not much of it out there). Did You Hear About the Morgans? opened with just $6.6 million, so it'll get hammered by It's Complicated next weekend. The Blind Side, at $164 million, is now Sandra Bullock's highest-grossing movie and the biggest sports movie of all time. Plus, by next week at the latest, it will be the second-highest-grossing 'based on a true story' movie in history, behind the relative non-fiction of The Passion of the Christ. The Princess and the Frog dropped 49%, bringing its ten-day total to a somewhat disappointing $44 million. It will need all the holiday cheer that it can muster to cross the $100 million mark. A Christmas Carol dropped 49%, as a result of losing its IMAX and 3D screens to you-know-what. Its total stands at $130.8 million, and Disney is hoping to use the Christmas season to get this one past $150 million. Invictus dropped 51% and now stands at $15 million. Any hopes of grossing more than $35 million will depend on Oscar traction in the next month.

For quite some time, I used an avatar from Associated Content's library of free stock photos. Their picture of a coffee mug with the Associated Content logo on it is a popular one in the forum, and so are several other avatars, but these photo avatars don't show the personality of the individual content producer the same way a personal photograph would. Most participants in Associated Content's forum, along with many other forums across the internet, have photo avatars of themselves, their pets, children, a favorite flower or some other personal glimpse of who they are. I tried creating my own photo avatar by editing a picture of myself in Windows Paint program, but all the pictures I used ended up distorted when I uploaded them to Associated Content. After much trial and error, I began looking for a program that I could use to crop my photo to the perfect avatar size.

Most of the websites that are available for creating an avatar do so by helping you design a cartoon that you can use. I wanted to use my own photo, but didn't want to pay an exorbitant fee for PhotoShop or some other photo editing program. As I searched, I found a website called Shrinkpictures.com. This website allows users to upload a photo and shrink it down to a specific size - for free. All you have to do is go into the control panel of your forum or other website to see the required pixel size of the avatar. Associated Content's avatars are 72 pixels square.

Once you know the pixel size you need, just go to www.Shrinkpictures.com upload the photo by clicking on the “Browse” button and selecting the photo you want to use for your avatar, next set the desired size of the avatar you are trying to create (72 pixels for Associated Content), then click “Resize” and wait for the program to do its thing. It's quick and easy, and you end up with a perfectly-sized photo avatar to use in Associated Content and other internet forums and websites.

On its main page, Shrinkpictures.com will shrink down a larger photo according to your specifications. The 'create an avatar' tool, though, shrinks the photo and crops it so that your photo is perfectly square to prevent distortion when uploading it to your forum. Once the photo is cropped, the tool shows you a selection of photo avatars that are cut from different areas of the main photo.

Using Shrinkpictures.com to create your own photo avatar is easy and addictive. You'll find yourself creating photo avatars from several of your photos to use in all of your forums to show your personality and interests to all of your friends.

Watch A Single Man Online

Posted by gordonaguilar1961 on December 21, 2009

These resolutions should benefit any single man whether he is very shy or just wants to improve his own life or the quality of woman in it.

1) Get Fit - Exercise will tone your body and make you more physically attractive to women. It also releases chemicals which make you feel great and when you feel great it creates another layer of attraction. Who do you think looks better a woman who looks miserable or one who has that extra energy about her and feels great?

2) Set Goals - What do you plan to accomplish this year? You NEED to write these down for yourself. I personally plan to have started my own business and travel more. By setting goals and sticking to them you will become a man of purpose and much more desirable in the eyes of a woman.

3) Get a Hobby - Those with no interests simply aren't interesting. Find something you want to and enjoy doing. It will help you meet new like minded people and help open more doors of oppurtunity in your life. It should be something reasonable cool as well. Woman aren't that attracted to guys who are passionate about chess.

4) Go Shopping - For clothing that is. Take some of your gal friends out to get their opinions or go to a clothing store where a woman is working and get her opinion. Having a new look will help improve you image and can create more attraction in woman. Plus it sale time now so put that Christmas money to good use.

5) Cut Back on Smoking and Drinking - If you want you can aim to stop smoking this year but simply cutting back is a more manageable goal. By reducing the level of cigarettes and alcohol you consume your will become more healthy. You should also be aware that both smoking and drinking are huge turn offs to quality woman.

6) Learn Something New - This could be anything. I still want to learn some form of proper dancing. It could be a language, martial art, instrument or even how to drive. It should be something that you feel will help improve your life and that you will need or enjoy.

7) Go Somewhere New - Ever wanted to visit a foreign country? Then this is your year to do it. Just plan around it. The aim of this resolution is that you travel somewhere new and take a step outside your comfort zone. Adventurous men always be more attractive as they are more interesting.

8) Keep a blog - That's pretty lame right? In many ways it is since its basically an online diary. However it will help you improve your writing skills and story telling skills. Creating a blog will help you memorize stories and events that happened or you attended. It will also keep your friends and family updated with your life. Woman are captivated by good story tellers.

9) Speak to 2 NEW People Everyday - Why? How? Well for those of you who are really shy just speaking to any 2 people be it man or woman, young or old your confidence in approaching strangers will increase. You can ask them anything such as, did you have a good new years party?, have you made any new years resolutions? or did Santa get you that for Christmas? Just keep it friendly. By the end of the year you will have approached 730 new people. Woman are much more attracted to guys with good social skills and being able to strike up conversation with complete strangers correctly is a good start.

10) Have More Fun - Woman aren't attracted to guys who just go out to get girls. They will see you as a player and be vary of you and blow you off to protect themselves. Aim to have more fun! If you go out to a club just to have fun you won't walk away disappointed and downhearted if you don't get a girl instead you will walk away happy thinking about what a fun night you had. It's this attitude of just having fun and not trying to score that will help you attract the women you desire.

Download The Lovely Bones

Posted by gordonaguilar1961 on December 21, 2009

Many works of mystery literature have been made into films. Several of these films stand out as being exceptional and in my opinion, very close to being as good as the books. This December the book The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold has a film version coming out that I cannot wait to see. I read this book in one day a few months ago. The Lovely Bones is the story of a young girl who is brutally raped and murdered. Sebold does an amazing job with showing what the girl, Susan Salmon, may have been thinking as she views events in the lives of her family from heaven. Truly I cannot wait for this film. A movie based on Sherlock Holmes will soon be arriving in theatres as well. My husband cannot wait for that film.

The Davinci Code (My personal #1 favorite. The rest are not in any specific order)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Davinci_Code

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Da_Vinci_Code_(film)

The Davinci Code is a novel written by Dan Brown in 2003. The book follows a symbolist named Robert Langdon as he investigates a murder that takes place in Paris, France. He discovers the possibility that a coverup exists between the Priory of Sion and the Opus Dei over Jesus Christ being married to Mary Magdalene and having children. The granddaughter of the murder victim, Sophie Neveu, inevitably is revealed as being a descendent of Christ. She had been told her parents and brother were killed when she was a young child but in the end of the book she meets her mother and her brother. The 2006 film follows the book fairly closely. The film's biggest star is Tom Hanks who plays the Robert Langdon character. The movie was likely made because the book was a huge success. As of 2009, The Davinci Code has sold more than 80 million copies.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_Potter_(film_series)

What young child (and some adults) does not love Harry Potter? This book is the first in the Harry Potter series written by J.K. Rowling in 1997. It received an enormous amount of success. The book introduced Harry Potter as a young wizard whose parents were once killed by the evil Voldemort. Voldemort was unable to kill Harry and Harry later becomes a student at the Hogwart's School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He successfully ends Voldemort's attempt at a comeback. Four years after the release of the book, a film version was made. Many people, including my own then 30 year old sister, stood in line for hours to buy tickets. The movie was as much of a success as the book earning more than $976 million dollars at the box office. The film was made because people saw how well the book did and wanted to repeat the success on film. Daniel Ratcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint were the three biggest stars of this movie and the sequels that followed.

Kiss The Girls

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kiss_the_Girls_(film)

James Patterson wrote the novel Kiss The Girls in 1995. Casanova is a serial killer who takes girls into the woods and leaves them to die. The identity of Casanova is unknown for a while, even after one victim named Kate escapes. This victim eventually identifies the attacker as Dr. William Rudolph. Alex Cross joins the investigation when he learns his niece is missing. Cross eventually hits Rudolph in the chest with a gun. Rudolph was a separate serial killer known as the Gentleman Caller. As he dies from the gunshot, he tells Cross he will never catch Casanova. Alex visits Kate and goes out jogging. He returns to the house and sees Detective Nick Rushkin who is Casanova and hits him with a stun gun. Cross recovers quickly enough to fatally shoot Casanova. Kiss The Girls was a huge hit in 1995 so in 1997, a film was made to better share this genius. Morgan Freeman, Ashley Judd, and Cary Elwes were stars in this amazing film

A Painted House

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Painted_House

A Painted House is a book written by American author John Grisham. John Grisham relied heavily on his experiences as a child in Arkansas while writing the book. This simple fact makes his book one of my favorites as I am an Arkansan and have been since birth. A Painted House was written in 2001 but set in the late Summer and early Fall of 1952. The story is told through the point of a view of a seven year old child named Luke. Luke experiences an idealistic life until he sees a town bully named Hank Spruill attack three boys from the “notorious” Sisco family. Hank wishes to bring Luke in as a friendly witness to corroborate what happened. Luke supports his story out of his own fear. Not too long later, Luke sees Hank murdered and his body tossed into the river. Luke is threatened with death if he tells anyone. The end of the story brings the family driving to the city to find work. A Painted House was adapted into a television movie directed by Alfonso Arau. The teleplay remained very faithful to its source. Scott Glenn, Logan Lerman, Robert Sean Leonard, Melinda Dillion, Anja Bareitkits, Audrey Marie Anderson, Pablo Schreiber, and Luis Garcia are the main film stars.

The Silence of the Lambs

The Silence of the Labs refers to a novel written by Thomas Harris in 1988. Clarice Starling become a very important character as she is able to interview Hannibal Lecter while other cannot. Lecter is serving nine life sentences iconnected to murders he had committed. Clarice is looking for information to find Buffalo Bill. Lecter helps Starling to consider certain things as a serial killer would and be better able to determine where Buffalo Bill was hiding out.. Clarice Starling eventually encounters Buffalo Bill. The Silence of the Lambs movie came out in 1991. Jodie Foster played Clarice Starling while Anthony Hopkins did an amazing job as Lecter. Several other important actors were in the movie as well.

Angels and Demons

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angels_and_Demons

2008 brought another good year for the Davinci Code creator, Dan Brown. Angels and Demons was written by Dan Brown in 2000. Robert Langdon is a character from The Davinci Code who returns to the book in an effort to uncover the secrets of the Illuminati. The film adaptation that was released in May of 2009 was set after the events of the Davinci Code. Angels and Demons was released in 2009. I do not believe Davinci Code brought closure to the reader and this may be one reason the book and movie did very well. Again, Tom Hanks starred as Robert Langdon. Ewan McGregor, Ayelete Suser, and some others were the stars in this important movie.

In Cold Blood

In Cold Blood, is a 1967 film based on a murder case involving the 1959 murders of a wealthy farmer from Kansas as well as his wife and two children. The killers were arrested not long after the murders. This book deals with the lives of the parolees who together commited a mass murder. Capote details the lives of those responsible for the tragic occurrence. It is an amazing book. In 1967, Richard Brooks prepared the adaption from the book to the film. Stars were: Robert Blake, Scott Wilson, John Forsythe, and Paul Stewart. In Cold Blood provided a lot of history to an experience that truly happened. It is a great read and a wonderful movie.

The Langoliers

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Langoliers

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Langoliers_(TV_miniseries)

The Langoliers is one of four short stories published in Steven King's book “Four Past Midnight” written in 1990. On an air plane ride from Los Angeles to Bostom, Massachusetts, some passengers awaken while most of the passengers have disappeared. Wigs, heart pacemaker, dental work, and other things remain and all that is left of those who did not survive. It is believed the plane took a wrong path and it went straight through the Aurora Borealis

At first the characters believe what happened was confined to the plane. They soon discover this was not the case. One of the passengers eventually deduces that the world is fine but the plane they were in went back into the past by about fifteen minutes. A race endures to return to the plane and attempt to reverse their route. When they arrive back, they are disappointed because they again see no people and a blank airport. A few minutes passed before they realized they were 15 minutes into the future. The Langoliers became a two part movie in 1995. Patricia Wetting, Dean Stockwell, David Morse, and Kate Maberly were each stars.
